Fellow ALPA pilots at Porter Airlines,

Welcome to the Air Line Pilots Association, International!

Yesterday, the Canada Industrial Relations Board certified ALPA as your bargaining agent. You are joining more than 79,000 ALPA pilots, and are now the 43rd ALPA member airline. Congratulations to you, and thank you to the Porter Pilots for Change ALPA Organizing Committee for running an extremely positive campaign.

We know that you and the company have a strong and constructive relationship, with both parties working together towards the continued growth of the airline. With your ALPA membership, you have the opportunity to continue that relationship with the added benefit of a more powerful, united voice for pilots. Porter pilots now will have the resources, support, and assistance of ALPA behind them, keeping their best interests in mind. ALPA is pilot-led and staff supported: this means you will be setting your own path forward.

Now that ALPA is your bargaining agent, we’ll establish a union structure at Porter right away. The first step will be for ALPA’s vice president–administration/secretary, Capt. Sean Creed, to appoint Porter pilots to serve as your temporary representatives. We will send you their names immediately following their appointment, which will take place in the next couple of days. After your pilot group has had sufficient time to complete membership onboarding, there will be elections for permanent representatives and officers.

If you already submitted a membership card and $5.00, you will become an ALPA member right away and will soon receive your ALPA number. With that, you will have full access to ALPA’s resources. For those of you who have not completed a membership card yet, watch for additional communications with information about how to submit your ALPA membership application.

Be assured, we will keep you informed every step of the way as you build your local union. Until your temporary representatives are announced, please contact Ron Rindfleisch from ALPA’s Representation Department if you have questions or concerns at Ron.Rindfleisch@alpa.org or 571-215-2233. You can also visit the Porter Pilots for Change ALPA website for more information about ALPA.

One very important ALPA resource that you have immediate access to as a member is the Worldwide Accident/Serious Incident Hotline. If you are involved in an aircraft accident or serious incident, please immediately call ALPA’s hotline at 202-797-4180 (collect calls accepted). For other non-time-critical safety issues, please call our Engineering and Air Safety Department toll-free at 1-800-424-2470.

The Porter pilots proved it is indeed your time! And now "It’s Time" for all Porter pilots to sign up for membership, volunteer, and make your collective voices heard. Welcome aboard.
Sincerely,
