Fellow Porter pilots,

This week many of us participated in our first show of Unity as ALPA members, joining hundreds of pilots participating in the Air Transat informational picket events at YUL, YYZ and corporate offices in Montréal.

Looking ahead, your MEC meets December 1 in Ottawa, coinciding with ALPA’s annual Hill Day, to advocate for our labour rights on Parliament Hill. Simultaneously, our negotiating team is finalizing preparations to open bargaining December 8th.

Virtual Town Hall Meetings

Join your newly elected Council Representatives for our upcoming Virtual Town Hall meetings!

If you have any questions you’d like the MEC to address, please email us at POEMEC@alpa.org.

Meeting Schedule

MEC Officer Elections

Elections for MEC Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary-Treasurer will take place during the December 1 meeting. Please note that these are distinct from the Local Council officer elections detailed in the recent POE Pilot Update - Council Elections Process Underway.

While any active member in good standing is eligible to serve, only status representatives may nominate candidates. Therefore, if you wish to run, you must email your representative to express interest. The elected officers will serve a two-year term beginning December 4.

Liberia pairings were awarded in the December bid, despite previous communications from Crew Planning indicating they would be withheld. This discrepancy was caused by a misalignment regarding training holds.

While the December schedule is final, this error underscores the necessity for tighter cooperation and verification between the Scheduling Committee and Crew Planning. We are taking steps to ensure that future bid packages—starting in January—accurately reflect available flying before bids close, to ensure you are bidding on a valid pairing package.

Management pilots will continue to operate the inaugural flights in order to ensure various ground and station teams are prepared to properly handle the E195. A company risk assessment has identified the need for a safety pilot to accompany crews on the first few pairings. These safety pilots will travel in the jumpseat and will not displace pilots from holding pairings in seniority order.

In unity,
