Dear Porter Pilots,
It has been my distinct pleasure to help organize and establish the Porter pilot group as members of ALPA. What began with a few phone calls to dedicated individuals in the summer of 2023 has swiftly expanded, with the Porter pilots contributing nearly 900 voices to ALPA’s collective. This unified body—ALPA Canada—now covers 13,500 Canadian airline pilots, representing an incredible 95% of the pilots in Canada.
This collective voice is a substantial asset that will pay significant dividends as we work towards achieving our first Collective Agreement. As ALPA President Jason Ambrosi noted during our first informational meeting in October 2023: “We are stronger together.”
I'm genuinely excited and confident about the new energy and qualified experience Brian and Thomas will bring to the MEC executive. Remember, ALPA is a bottom-up organization. The MEC and Negotiating Committee get their bargaining power and mandate directly from us—our unity and engagement as a pilot group. This is particularly important as bargaining officially opens next week.
While industrial headwinds persist, our course is set for a bright future. We deliver a high-quality product, and by securing this collectively bargained agreement, we will establish the foundational stability needed to continue supporting ourselves, our families, and our loved ones.
Thank you for your messages of support! They are a welcome reminder of the professionalism that defines the Porter pilot group and makes this such a great place to work.
I look forward to our paths crossing on the line.
In Unity,
Andrew Axson
