Porter Pilots,
Last week we shared the proposed MEC structure for our pilots under ALPA should the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) approve our application, as we expect it to. In case you missed any past messages from us you can find them here. We’ll continue to keep you updated throughout the certification process via email.
After the interim leadership group has been established, one of their top priorities in the first few months will be conducting a membership drive. This drive is critical to effective self-governance and pilot unity. The more pilots who are members, the more effective and accurate your representation by ALPA will be.
What does this process look like for you?
If you already filled out a certification card, ALPA has that information and will assign you an ALPA ID number (or, if you were previously an ALPA member, provide you with your prior number). You will be an ALPA member and able to access ALPA resources immediately—and will be eligible to vote/run for office when elections for your pilot group leadership are held.
For these pilots, ALPA will be asking you to log into your member account using your ALPA ID and complete your member record--things like preferred phone numbers or email addresses, partner names, education and military experience, email preferences, etc. The more information you provide, the better ALPA—and the Porter leadership team--will be able to serve you and communicate with you.
If you did not fill out a certification card during the campaign (and you can still do that; click here), you’ll be assigned an ALPA ID which you will reference when filling out the online ALPA Membership Application. Once your application is processed, you will use that same number to access to the Association’s benefits--along with the ability to vote in your upcoming elections.
ALPA prides itself on being a democratic organization, run from the bottom up. Ideally, every single pilot participates in both electing their ALPA leadership and holding those leaders accountable to the pilot group. You are not required to join, but you do NOT have a vote or a voice if you do not become a member.
Please keep an eye out for the welcome emails from ALPA and read them carefully for instructions and action items. Remember, the most effective representation comes from the pilot group’s participation.
