Update from the ALPA Organizing Committee

Fellow Porter pilots,

The Porter Pilots for Change ALPA Organizing Committee (Porter OC) has been busy collecting cards this week, the final step of our journey toward joining the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).

Thank you to everyone who has signed a card already. The demonstration of support from the pilot group has been overwhelming. Many Porter OC members have had to ask ALPA to send them more cards to give out, and we’ve had several new pilots ask to join the Porter OC.

If you haven’t yet filled out and signed your card, there’s still plenty of time. You can show your support in one of three ways:
  • Find a member of the Porter OC for a card (see locations here), fill it out, and hand it back to them (along with the $5 fee required by law)
  • Download a card from the Porter OC website poe.alpa.org fill it out, and hand it to a member of the Porter OC
  • Download a card from the Porter OC website, poe.alpa.org fill it out, and mail it to ALPA (please no coins)
While ALPA bag tags are a common sight among Porter pilots now, we understand that some pilots wish to be discreet about voting for ALPA. If you do not wish to be seen signing a card, one of our Porter OC members will be happy to meet you outside of your working hours in a private location of your choosing. Remember, only the CIRB and a few ALPA representatives can see who signed a card. They take confidentiality seriously, meaning that neither the company nor your peers know who has signed a card.

If you want to show your support beyond signing a card and wearing a bag tag, it’s not too late to join the Porter OC. While we already have OC members across fleet types, positions, bases, and seniority numbers, a larger Porter pilot OC demonstrates just how serious we are about securing professional representation. Signing a card is a big decision, and it’s important to feel confident in the choice you’re making.

For those pilots who have outstanding questions they would like answered before signing a card, please get in touch with a Porter OC member. You can call, email, or talk to one of us when we’re out there flying the line.

We are all proud to be Porter pilots and excited about the direction our company is heading. By joining ALPA, we will secure important protections and rights that will support us as pilots, united as one pilot group, as we support the continued growth of our airline.

It's Time,

The Porter ALPA Organizing Committee

"I could see that unless we got a pilots’ association with real power, there wouldn’t be enough money in airline flying to make it worth my effort. I would have to go back to slipsticking at a desk, and I didn’t want that; I wanted to keep flying.”
