Porter Pilots:
Last week, your pilot group took an important step toward securing ALPA representation by starting the card collection process. This is your opportunity to show that you support a certified union under the Canada Labour Code to represent your interests as a professional airline pilot.
With ALPA, all Porter pilots will gain a strong pilot voice, collective bargaining that produces an enforceable contract, and the resources needed for the complex issues pilots face day in and day out. Our union is run by pilots, for pilots, and should Porter pilots become part of ALPA, you can start constructive legally supported labour relations that accommodate corporate success while maintaining your airline’s culture.
ALPA is the world’s largest airline pilots' union, as well as the largest nongovernmental aviation safety and security organization. We’re building on our 90-plus-year history of advancing the aviation profession, continuing to negotiate industry-leading contracts, protect and promote pilot jobs, and ensure that aviation safety remains a top priority.
Right now, your company can change your work rules at their discretion--and you currently have little power to prevent it. A collective agreement would provide legally enforceable work rules, a grievance process, and numerous other benefits and protections.
Signing and submitting a card, along with a $5 membership fee, states that you want to become an ALPA member. Once a strong showing of Porter pilots have submitted their cards, ALPA will petition the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) for certification via card count.
Special thanks to the Porter Pilots for Change Organizing Committee, who have acted professionally in this campaign and gathered a group to organize pilots on the ground. If you haven't already, please read the earlier email from the Organizing Committee with all the details you need on how to submit a card. I also encourage you to visit the organizing website poe.alpa.org and review the FAQ section.
ALPA stands ready to help you and your pilot group achieve your goals. We look forward to answering your questions over the coming weeks and to welcoming the Porter pilots as a unified group under one list--joining the more than 95% of pilots in Canada as ALPA pilots.
