Porter pilots,

As you continue to collect cards, the pilot leaders of the twenty pilot groups represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l in Canada, want to share a bit of our ALPA experience with you, as a group, to illustrate what our union has accomplished in Canada in our core priorities of representing pilots, advancing aviation safety and security, and promoting the aviation profession.

You can quickly gauge ALPA’s expertise at securing collective agreements for professional pilots by reviewing information about the recently ratified contracts at Air Canada, WestJet Encore, PAL Aerospace, Keewatin, and Pascan--all negotiated and approved within the past year, some the pilots' first-ever contract. Air Transat went back to the negotiating table recently, and talks continue at Air Inuit, Pivot, and Kelowna Flightcraft. Representing 95% of unionized pilots in Canada, each of our pilot groups works works through ALPA in securing interim contractual gains for the profession.

In advancing aviation safety and security, ALPA pilots participate in the union’s Air Safety Organization (ASO). Today, the ASO is 450 volunteers strong, supported by ALPA’s professional staff, and works day in and day out to advance ALPA’s priorities in its four pillars: safety, security, pilot assistance, and jumpseat. Watch this video to learn more about the ASO’s work, organizational structure, and 93 years of major accomplishments in the four pillars. ALPA's advocacy at work continues through supporting pilots when accidents occur.

All Porter pilots have the legal right to sign a card to join ALPA, and we collectively support and encourage your efforts in seeking union representation. We look forward to when you will join us in the world's largest airline pilots union making all of our voices that much stronger in Canada and across the profession. To learn more about each of our pilot groups and where we stand, check out the Canadian Pilot Groups section with our pilot group profiles. Contact any one of us if you need anything.

"I could see that unless we got a pilots’ association with real power, there wouldn’t be enough money in airline flying to make it worth my effort. I would have to go back to slipsticking at a desk, and I didn’t want that; I wanted to keep flying.”
