Fellow Porter Pilots,

We're excited to announce a significant step forward in building our pilot-led union: the activation of several new, vital committees. This framework will be crucial for protecting and advancing the interests of all pilots in our group.

Pilot Group Committee Activations & Leadership

Each committee is led by a dedicated, appointed member who brings essential background and expertise to the role. These chairs are your primary resource for these issues—they represent you and are here to assist every pilot.

Committee Chair Area of Focus
Central Air Safety Bradley Vien Oversight and advocacy for all aspects of flight safety and security.
Pilot Assistance/FlyWell Matthew Chiasson Providing confidential peer support and resources for health, wellness, and critical incident response.
Negotiating Dan Vanier-Cholette Leading the collective bargaining process for our first contract.
Communications Gerry Churchill Ensuring clear, timely, and effective communication across the pilot group.
Jumpseat Megan Massi Protecting and enhancing jumpseat privileges and access for our members.
Membership Hasan Aziz Growing our ranks and ensuring all members have access to ALPA resources and services.
Hotels & Transportation Elizabeth De Swaaf Addressing and resolving issues related to layover accommodations and pilot transportation.

Volunteer Opportunities: Get Involved!

The strength of our union depends on your participation. We encourage you to reach out to a committee chair with questions or to offer your time as a volunteer.

Thank you to the many pilots who have already stepped forward! Your commitment is valued as we form more committees and expand our volunteer roster.

What Volunteers Do

Committee volunteers are essential for improving the Porter pilot group. You'll help respond to DARTs (Data Action Reports), execute various tasks, and coordinate with other ALPA pilot groups on national initiatives (like Flight Duty Regulations or Jumpseat).

The Appointment Process

Committee positions are appointed, not elected.

  • The Porter MEC appoints the Committee Chairs.
  • The MEC also appoints committee members, guided by the Chair.
  • The MEC works with ALPA National Committee Chairs for appointments to industry-wide committees.

We look forward to seeing your commitment in action!

Nominations Open for Local Council Representatives

ALPA is currently accepting nominations for permanent representatives to serve on all three local councils. This is an opportunity for eligible Active members to declare their willingness to serve in these crucial volunteer leadership roles.

Elected representatives serve as the first point of contact for fellow pilots, addressing issues from grievances to scheduling. They automatically become members of the MEC and serve on ALPA's Board of Directors (BOD), integrating the local council into the union's larger governance structure.

For detailed information on the process, eligibility rules, and campaigning, read Wednesday’s MEC Update.
