Notice to Bargain
Yesterday, we officially started the bargaining process for our first collective agreement by filing notice to bargain with Porter management under the Canada Labour Code. As reported by Global News, this filing serves as a fundamental tool for us as pilots, and it:
- Protects our current working conditions: It maintains the current statutory freeze over our existing pay rates, schedules, and benefits, preventing management from making changes while we are in negotiations.
- Enforces good-faith bargaining: It compels management to negotiate seriously with our union on proposals for improvements.
- Structures the negotiation process: It formally begins our negotiation timeline under the Code, ensuring an organized and timely process toward a new collective agreement.
While formal meetings are a few months away, your MEC is already preparing by forming a negotiating committee and creating a pilot survey to identify your priorities. This survey will help us shape our bargaining proposals for improvements like better pay, work-life balance, and enhanced safety.
We'll provide more information on the process, industry standards, and contract comparisons in the coming weeks. For now, please join us at our informational meetings to learn more about bargaining directly from ALPA staff and your representatives.
Porter Pilot Informational Meetings
We’ve seen a great turnout at the first two of our informational meetings in Thunder Bay and Vancouver. Tomorrow, our series continues in Ottawa. Pilots from all bases are welcome to attend any of the scheduled meetings.
Next Up: Ottawa
The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 12, in Ottawa.
- Time: 1500 ET
- Location: Westin Ottawa - Quebec Meeting Room (11 Colonial By Drive)
- Refreshments will be provided.
The Ottawa meeting will cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Introductions from local representatives and primary pilot contacts.
- An overview of the ALPA structure and the role of the ALPA Canada board.
- Key resources like Aeromedical Services, the Critical Incident Response Program, and enhancements to Fly Well.
