Fellow pilots,
Today, your MEC in coordination with ALPA staff, filed notice to bargain under the Canada Labour Code, formally notifying Porter management of our intention to commence negotiations for our first collective agreement. Although meetings with management are not expected to start for a few months, as per Canada Labour Code section 50 (b), this notice was filed to maintain the current statutory freeze over our working conditions.
Since certifying with ALPA last month, your MEC has been preparing for upcoming negotiations by establishing the Negotiating Committee and working closely with ALPA staff on a pilot survey to identify you and your family’s top priorities. This survey, once released, will begin to set the foundation for our bargaining mandate. You will hear from us again soon about the pilot survey, and what to expect throughout the bargaining process. As a reminder, only active ALPA members are able to participate in the bargaining survey, so please ensure your membership application is complete.
To remain engaged in our bargaining strategy, please read our POE MEC emails, attend our Porter Pilot Informational Meetings and any Pilot Unity Building (PUB) event. Reach out to your local council representatives and share your thoughts and ideas to make Porter a great career destination. Pilot unity and support will be vital as we move through the bargaining process.
In unity,
Your MEC
